Locomotion Control with Inverted Pendulum Model and Hierarchical Low-Dimensional Data

چکیده
This paper presents an interactive locomotion controller using motion capture data and an inverted pendulummodel (IPM). The motion data of a character is decomposed into those of upper and lower bodies, which are then dimension-reduced via what we call hierarchical Gaussian process dynamical model (H-GPDM). The locomotion controller receives the desired walking direction from the user. It is integrated into the IPM to determine the pose of the center of mass and the stance-foot position of the character. They are input to the H-GPDM, which interpolates the lowdimensional data to synthesise a redirected motion sequence on an uneven surface. The locomotion controller allows the upper and lower bodies to be independently controlled and helps us generate natural locomotion. It can be used in various real-time applications such as games. key words: character animation, interactive controller, dimensional reduction

This article gives a practical overview of the popular biomechanically inspired, computationally efficient, algorithmically straightforward inverted pendulum technique for character-based systems. We explain the different flavours of inverted pendulum (e.g., springloaded and gravity compensated inverted pendulum), their viability for different situations (e.g., walking, running), simulation res...
متن کاملInverted Pendulum Control Using Negative Data
In the training phase of learning algorithms, it is always important to have a suitable training data set. The presence of outliers, noise data, and inappropriate data always affects the performance of existing algorithms. The active learning method (ALM) is one of the powerful tools in soft computing inspired by the computation of the human brain. The operation of this algorithm is complete...

Background:Despite some successful dynamic simulation of self-impact double pendulum (SIDP)-as humanoid robots legs or arms- studies, there is limited information available about the control of one leg locomotion. Objective :The main goal of this research is to improve the reliability of the mammalians leg locomotion and building more elaborated models close to the natural movements, by modelin...
متن کاملControl concepts for walking based on point-mass 3D models
In the field of bipedal locomotion, many researchers use controllers based on simple point mass models to achieve walking balance [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. In these models, balance is ruled by center of mass (CoM) position and velocity, foot placement and its timing, and pushoff impulses. But is this also true for a more complex, many-DOF, robot? Does upper body motion significantly influence CoM dynami...
متن کاملLearning to Step: Models of Foot Placement for Biped Locomotion
In this paper, we propose different models for estimating foot placement in biped locomotion. We use either learning approach or optimization approach to obtain such models. We evaluate these models in terms of robustness and complexity. Our results show that these models are more flexible than Inverted Pendulum Model and they provide more agility for biped locomotion under different walking sp...
